Kaiwai BA/BMus, MA (Hons I)
Hector Kaiwai (Ngati
Porou/Ngati Maniapoto/Tuhoe) is a Researcher and Evaluator.
He has a Masters degree and skills in qualitative research
methodologies, formative, process and impact evaluation, data
gathering (i.e. interviewing, focus groups), data analysis
and project coordination. His main research work has been
in the areas of alcohol marketing, social marketing, positive
youth development, Participatory Action Research (PAR) and
more recently, gambling and fire safety. Hector’s current
evaluation activities includes formative work on the Northcote
Child and Youth Development Project which aims to demonstrate
how central and local government can work together to support
long term development for children and young people in the
Auckland region, and process and impact work for one nationally
youth based, and one kohanga, kura kaupapa and marae based,
violence prevention programme.
